2015 Syncrude Elite 10 - Format

History

The Syncrude Elite 10 is a brand-new tournament for 2014-15. It marks the first Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event created since the series started during the 2001-02 season.

The inaugural tournament will be held in Fort McMurray, Alta., from March 19-22, 2015. Tickets are still available, click here for details.

Format

The Syncrude Elite 10 features 10 men’s teams in a match play tournament. Players from the top teams proposed the new format to help differentiate the Syncrude Elite 10 from the other events in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series and keep the game interesting and exciting for both fans and players.

Under match play rules, teams play to win each end by scoring two or more points (with hammer) or stealing one or more points (without hammer). If neither team meets these requirements, no points are awarded and the hammer switches. The team that takes the most ends wins the game.

Teams receive 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for a win in the extra end (a draw to the button shootout) and 1 point for losing in the extra end.

Qualification

All 10 teams are invited to the Syncrude Elite 10 based on the World Curling Tour’s year-to-date order of merit list. There are no sponsor exemptions for this event.
